Avon is a quaint Village on Hatteras Island, nestled south of the Tri-Villages of Rodanthe/Waves/Salvo and just north of Buxton. Avon, like most of Hatteras Island, is a dream for water sports. You can often see kite boarders enjoying the shallow waters of the sound, or surfers enjoying the waves on the ocean. Often referred to as Kinnakeet by locals (the town was re-named Avon in 1883), Avon is the most amenity-rich community on Hatteras Island, with restaurants, a chain grocery store, a medical center, move theater and plenty of shopping and gift shops. It's also home to the Avon Fishing Pier, open from spring to fall, where you can fish late into the night or just enjoy a quiet stroll.
